The
Bergen Pipe Band
- Bergens eget sekkepipeband
The Bergen Pipe Band - Playing at Oslo Spektrum - 5th November 2011
A quote about The Bergen
Pipe Band from Bergens Tidende 7th November 2011:
'Den bergenser som ikke fikk
tårer i øynene av Nystemten på sekkepipe i Ullevålsveien, kan levere inn
sitt bergenske statsborgerskap med det samme. Det var fest, det var
Brann, det var Bergen.'
The Bergen Pipe Band (sekkepipeband)
is a registered organisation with Brønnøysund (Reg.
nr. 994 656 295). The band is also
known as the Bergen Pipeband (and sometimes incorrectly referred to as
'Bergen Pipers' in the media!). Bergen Pipeband was formed in
September 2005 by the current Pipe Major - Chris Jones, and a Danish
piper
and continues to maintain a
strong corps of bagpipers and drummers. The band currently has
over 20 playing members on the
bagpipers, learning the practice chanter, snare drums, base drum and
tenor drums. Piping and Drumming tuition takes place twice a week
on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 17.00 till 20.00 at the
International School of Bergen.
Additional practices take place when required.
The band
members have played at a number of high profile events including with
H.M. Kongens Garde at the Lillehammerreveljen 2010, Brann Cup Final
march to Ullevaal Stadion with Brann Bataljonen 2011, Oslo Spektrum
2011, Brannfest, 'The Tall Ships' Races 2008', Pillaguri festival in
Otta, with the
Greenland Whalefishers,
Den 12 Mann, Herremiddagen, Høststormen, Radio and Television (NRK,
Radio 1, P5
and TV2), International Rugby matches - Norway vs
other teams and club and cup final games for Bergen Rugby Klubb,
weddings, funerals, parties and Julebords etc. The band also plays at
its own Whisky tastings and with Det Glade Bergen in the 17 mai

Bergen's Buekorps Bataljons at anniversary events and other special
occasions. The band can often be seen performing at free events in
